Tree Overgrowing House
Problem: Tree Too Close to House
When the house was built, it was built around two cedar trees, but unfortunately, without adequate clearance for the tree’s eventual size. As the tree grew, it’s trunk became so close to the house that on windy days it would hit the overhang causing damage to the house. The owner had two choices … move the house, or remove the trees. They decided the trees had to go.
Several factors complicated the removal of these trees including: the potential for damage to the house from falling debris, and the fact that there was only very limited access by roadway to the house.
Crane Work
The only safe way to remove the tree was by use of a crane, the maximum size of crane that could be used was limited by the roadway, and even using a smaller crane and after getting permission from the neighbour for use of their recently constructed driveway, the closest we could get to the tree was 85 feet away.
Because of the distance to the tree, the maximum weight we could safely lift with the crane was limited, causing us to have to cut the pieces shorter and shorter as we moved down the tree and the trunk got wider. From that location, we didn’t have a landing area that the truck could access for picking up the logs, so once the tree was cut and down, we had to move the crane to allow reach from the landing area to the truck access point on the road.
The shorter pieces were loaded into bins, and the longer pieces (over 14 feet) were sent to the our mill.
Cranes Equal Efficiency
The job was completed in a single day with minimal disturbance to the property.
