A Message from The President
July 25, 2009
Since opening the doors of Burley Boys in 1983 and becoming a Certified Arborist and Tree Risk Assessor in the early 1990’s, I have witnessed many changes in this industry and in the way Arboriculture is viewed.
For many years Urban Logging was an accepted practice in B.C. The practice of topping & pruning trees with no regard for the aesthetics or long term health of the trees, and removing trees on public and private property with no thought of replacement or environmental impact, was common.
Within the last decade however, the public's awareness of the need to “put something back” has grown tremendously. The realization that trees are a sensitive resource and need to be appreciated has come a long way since the poor Arbor care practices of the 60’s and 70’s.
Improving the urban environment by offering a sustainable management plan that is compatible with the environment is paramount in our ability to successfully address the preservation of our trees, and critical in lessening green house gasses.
With this in mind, we are currently in the process of implementing a “new” program at Burley Boys in which we “give a little bit back”. This program allows us to provide a seedling to each of our customers having growth removed that is conducive to the area; to be planted by the customer or donated to a growth project as the customer sees fit. We are excited about this project, and anticipating it's integration by Fall, 2009.
It is my hope that we continue to promote the many benefits that a tree provides and continue to work with city planners, policy makers and community activists when planning for the future of our trees.
Best regards
Lars Shearer Founder, Burley Boys Tree Service Ltd 1983
